Uwe Breithaupt from Sales MTU Onsite Energy blogs his visit to Bauma.
I was also at Bauma three years back, and it just drops your jaw every time. Those huge cranes and haul trucks – the whole open-air area is just one big playground for men. And although I sell power gensets for a living, I still can't escape the unique fascination of these construction machines. Our exhibition stand, too, gives me a big sense of pride this year. Whereas last year we were located away from our engine brand MTU, holed up in the passageway between two halls, this time we're all together on one stand. And that all means a far more powerful presence than last time. On stand is a model of a 20-foot container genset, part of the MTU Onsite Energy line-up since 2015.
So far the response to our product range has been great. Even though the container genset on show is diesel-powered, many customers are also interested in our gas engines. And we're getting a lot more interested visitors and many more serious inquiries than three years ago. Bauma is also a great opportunity to take a sneaky peak at what the competition is offering. After all, if not at a trade fair, when else do you have the opportunity to inspect a genset in such intimate detail? Touring the fair, we also managed to pick out container manufacturers exhibiting MTU engines in their containers! Over the next few days I hope to speak to a lot more plant and genset manufacturers who maybe still aren't up to speed with our products. And who knows? We might be able to attract one or two new customers.
