Six engine series with a power range between 30 and 480 kW are available for manufacturers of agricultural technology. These engines have been highly successful in the field both in agriculture and other applications throughout the world. Germany is the biggest market for equipment manufacturers using the Series 500 and 900 engines and the Series 460 engine. In 2004, more than 3000 units were delivered to German customers in the agricultural sector alone. Overall, DaimlerChrysler Off-Highway has seen increased orders over the last year and has supplied more than 5000 engines for agriculture and forestry.

The 2004 harvest, which went off without major engine failures, provided evidence of the high quality of the engines for harvesters and forestry machines as well as for combines. Among DaimlerChrysler Off-Highway’s customers in the agricultural sector are OEMs such as Claas, Krone, Dammann and Buschhoff. The Series 500 and 900 engines as well as the Series 460 engine meet the requirements of the new exhaust emission standards EU III A and US Tier 3. Prototypes have already been delivered and standard series delivery is now commencing. On the basis of current indicators, Daimler-Chrysler Off-Highway expects continued sales growth in 2005.
Wide range of engines at Agritechnica
DaimlerChrysler Off-Highway has five exhibits at Agritechnica 2005. The two variants of the 4R 700C provide 47 to 70 kW (65 to 95 bhp) power and are mainly used in tractors. The 6R 926 delivers 220 to 240 kW (295 to 320 bhp). The six cylinder in-line 460 engine generates 220 to 360 kW (300 to 485 bhp) and the 8V 502 provides 330 to 480 kW (440 to 645 bhp). Since the engines can be easily adapted to meet the customer's requirements and are easily installed, they are used in a wide range of agricultural vehicles and processing machines.
The engines comply with the emission standards applicable to the relevant application and are characterized by low noise emission. In addition, these units are approved for operation with biodiesel fuels (FAME, RME and PME). Long service life, minimum operating costs and low fuel consumption make the engines especially user-friendly. Long service intervals and simplicity of maintenance are characteristic features of the new engines from DaimlerChrysler Off-Highway.
