Introducing Veloce, the world's fastest aluminum yacht

Posted on June 17, 2021 by Kerstin Hansmann

"Veloce" is to become the world's fastest aluminium yacht in its category. Three mtu engines of the type 16V2000M96L are to bring the yacht to the record speed of over 50 knots.
“Veloce” is Italian for “fast”. Dutch yacht builder Vanquish could not have given its new 35-meter yacht a more fitting name – because it is set to become the world's fastest aluminum yacht in its category.

Normally, yachts of this size can manage an average maximum speed of 35 – 45 knots. But not Veloce, whose three mtu 16V2000M96L engines will each deliver 1,939 kW (2,600 PS) of oomph to power the yacht to well over 50 knots (93 km per hour). This will make her the fastest diesel-powered aluminum yacht over 30 meters in length. How that works? Veloce has a so-called surface drive. Here, the propeller is only half under water and its inclination is adjustable. This reduces water resistance - and increases speed.

Erik van Prooijen, Project Manager at Vanquish Yachts, affectionately refers to the yacht as a “speed machine”.

“This crazy fast family cruiser combines speed and comfort in a unique way. In Rolls-Royce we have found an outstanding partner for this extraordinary project. We have full confidence in mtu engines and look forward to a great partnership.”

Erik van Prooijen - Project Manager at Vanquish Yachts

The game changing VQ115 Veloce is made entirely of aluminum, aiding speed as aluminum yachts are much lighter than steel craft. The vessel can achieve an impressive range of up to 500
nautical miles when powered by two engines and contains an extra fuel tank for
cruising at 15 knots.

"We can hardly wait to see the yacht on the water. We're proud that this impressive record-breaking yacht is to be powered by mtu engines.”

Wouter Hoek - Senior Sales Manager Marine at Rolls-Royce

The yacht is scheduled for delivery to its owner at the end of June 2022. We are already curious when and where he will chase her over the 50-knot threshold!
