Marine Defense: Naval Engines

Navies, coast guards, law enforcement and other government agencies worldwide require the ability to react swiftly and effectively, even under extreme circumstances. MTU gives them the power to do this through Naval solutions that perfectly match their complex requirements.

MTU has been manufacturing vast diesel engines and complete propulsion systems including gearbox, shaftline, propeller/waterjet and gasturbine for over half a century. Our idea of partnership is focused on delivering the naval engines and systems that best fit your needs and making sure they perform smoothly every step of the way. Our strong reputation for performance is based on years of developing, producing and supporting complete propulsion and on-board power systems for governmental and naval vessels.

Our engines stand out with their high power density and power-to-weight ratio, their compact design as well as their mechanical and thermal stability. On top of that, they are easy to use and maintain, with low lifecycle costs. MTU naval engines cover a broad power range from 400 to 10,000 kW. This gives every naval vessel the right propulsion – from small patrol vessels to frigates and large submarines.

Propulsion System Integration (PSI)

MTU provides comprehensive engineering and technical support for the design and implementation of a vessel’s propulsion system. Our PSI team helps reduce design, installation and commissioning costs.

Naval vessel Automation System

The MTU Callosum integrated automation system combines various self-sufficient subsystems into an intelligent overall structure. It gathers all of the ship’s data and displays it clearly on color monitors.

Integrated Logistics Support (ILS)

ILS keeps your naval engines and systems up and running for their entire lifetimes. We will customize your ILS package with products and services to match your specific needs, helping you safeguard uptime and reduce costs.

Gensets for service power and propulsion

Our flexible genset solutions are tailored to your needs. You can order them in standardized or customized versions:

  • Standardized gensets for cost effectiveness and favorable lead times based on our proven Series 2000 and Series 4000
  • Customized gensets tailored to the specific requirements for the most challenging requirements

Based on our successful Series 2000 and Series 4000 engines, they serve power demands between 330 and 3,015 kW. System support from a single source. Upon request, we can act as single source vendor to take on the technical and commercial responsibility for the entire propulsion, power-generation and automation system – from project engineering and management to support and service. Consolidating these responsibilities reduces the number of interfaces and, therefore, the risks both to the shipyard and the end-user.
