mtu South Africa founded

MTU Friedrichshafen, a DaimlerChrysler company, has acquired the activities of Prokura Diesel Services and has incorporated these into the newly founded mtu South Africa (Pty) Limited.
Johannesburg - MTU Friedrichshafen, a DaimlerChrysler company, has acquired the activities of Prokura Diesel Services and has incorporated these into the newly founded mtu South Africa (Pty) Limited.

The new company takes over all DaimlerChrysler Off-highway responsibilities in South Africa such as marketing, service, technical support and spare parts supply. The Off-Highway business, part of DaimlerChrysler Powersystems, consists mainly of the activities of MTU Friedrichshafen and Detroit Diesel, worldwide leading suppliers of propulsion systems with diesel engines, as well as the existing Mercedes-Benz off-highway applications.

mtu South Africa was registered on 22nd June 2001 and has incorporated all activities, assets and personnel of the former Prokura Diesel Services (PDS). PDS was founded in 1976 by Edi Michl, with the main emphasis on serving the local naval and marine customer, the South African Navy. A strong and long-standing relationship was established between mtu and PDS. PDS has built up fully-equipped workshop facilities in both Cape Town and Durban.

A new regional center in Johannesburg with warehouse, test bench, workshop and office facilities will open on 2nd August 2001. Here the focus will be on supporting the off-highway applications Construction & Industrial and Mining as well as Detroit Diesel on-highway applications.

Edi Michl will act as Managing Director until the end of 2002.
