Friedrichshafen, 8 March 2010. At the spring trade fair IBO 2010 in Friedrichshafen, school goers and their teachers and parents can take a hands-on approach to learning about skilled jobs in the Tognum Group. From 17 to 21 March, trainees and their instructors from the MTU Friedrichshafen subsidiary of Tognum AG will inform visitors about commercial and technical training offered by the Tognum Group. The Group’s trade fair exhibit will weigh several tons and is a 16V 4000 diesel engine for decentralized energy generation, which should give visitors a good idea of Tognum Group products.

“The young people coming to our booth will be allowed to handle the tools themselves. This is the best way for them to gain a realistic impression of the vocational training we offer”, explained Dr. Klaus Waldschmidt, Head of Personnel Development, Training and Education. For example, visitors will be able to make key ring pendants from engine parts with the help of industrial mechanics attending the booth.   Electronic and mechatronic technicians will also invite guests to take part in a race against an automatically controlled model racing car, for which trainees designed, produced and programmed the hardware and software themselves. Commercial trainees will give those who are just about to make their career choices a short course in job applications.   School classes who enroll for the “Learning Offensive - The Learning Experience" at the IBO Information Desk will have the opportunity to assemble a small diesel engine at the Tognum booth. A test run will follow to see if the engine functions.

The IBO spring trade fair takes place from Wednesday, 17 March to Sunday, 21 March at the Friedrichshafen exhibition grounds. Visitors will find the Tognum Group in Hall B2, Booth B2-300. Visitors will be able to acquaint themselves with the company and products and find out about the opportunities for skilled jobs at Tognum: industrial mechanic, construction mechanic, draftsman/woman, electronics technician for automation, mechatronic technician, model-making mechanic, health and safety specialist, machine assembler, component processor, industrial management assistant, administrative assistant, social insurance specialist. Trainees will also provide information on dual study courses available at cooperative state universities where academic study and work experience are integrated. These include Bachelor of Engineering degrees in mechanical engineering, electro-technology or industrial engineering; Bachelor of Arts degrees in industry or international business; Bachelor of Science degrees in information system.
