Friedrichshafen/Munich, April 15, 2013. At this year's Bauma show, the mtu 6R 1500 engine from Tognum subsidiary MTU Friedrichshafen received the award for “Diesel of the Year 2013”. The Italian trade magazine “Diesel” judged the six-cylinder inline variant of the mtu Series 1500, which offers power outputs from 400 to 460kW, to be the most innovative and technically advanced engine of the year. It meets the extremely low nitrogen oxide and particulate limits imposed by the EU Stage IV and EPA Tier 4 final emissions standards with the aid of exhaust gas recirculation and an exhaust gas aftertreatment system without a particulate filter. The prize-winning engine is presented at the mtu booth 211/310 in Hall A4.

The new mtu Series 1000, 1100, 1300 and 1500 engines with power ratings ranging from 100 to 460kW are designed for use in agricultural and forestry equipment, construction plant and specialized machinery. Examples include snow blowers, haul trucks, wheeled loaders, mobile cranes, excavators and underground mining vehicles.

“Diesel” magazine has been reporting on subjects related to the development, manufacture and use of diesel engines in the European region for 22 years. The publication has presented the annual “Diesel of the Year” award since 2006.
