EU Stage-V-engines to be delivered to Forest Tract for the first time

mtu is to supply 6R 1000 mtu engines compliant with EU Stage V directive

mtu and Forest Tract, the French manufacturer of forestry machinery, have come together for the first time to cooperate on the supply of engines compliant with EU Stage V requirements. In future, the forestry machinery built by Forest Tract, who is based in northern France, will be powered by mtu engines compliant with this emissions stage.

mtu and Forest Tract closed their partnership agreement in April 2017. It provides the framework for their collaboration on mtu engines compliant with the EU Stage V emissions directive due to come into force in 2019. Taking Mercedes Benz OM 93x and OM 47x commercial vehicle engines as a basis, Rolls-Royce Power Systems and Daimler are to jointly develop mtu Series 1000, 1100, 1300 and 1500 units that comply with the EU Stage V off-highway emissions standard.

The mtu 6R 1000 units delivering 100 to 280 kW are suitable for powering all of Forest Tract’s skidder (forestry machine) models. The mtu engines stay within the new soot particle limits through a combination of in-engine innovations with SCR system and a diesel particulate filter.

The highly evolved EU-Stage V-compliant engines will bring to customers of Forest Tract higher torque at low engine rpm, a further reduction in fuel consumption and a broader performance range than that offered by their EU Stage IV-compliant predecessors. An EU Stage V prototype is to be delivered in summer 2017.

The mtu engines of Series 1000 – 1500 meet the new targets of EU Stage V for soot emissions using advanced in-engine technology, an SCR system and an additional diesel particulate filter.

Through high-precision guidance of the crane, Forest Tract machines are gentle on the forest environment. They boast an all-wheel hydraulic drive, a crane specifically developed for moving tree trunks, and a panorama cabin.
