Friedrichshafen, 9 September 2008. The Tognum subsidiary L’Orange GmbH today celebrates its 75th anniversary. Since it was founded in 1933, the specialist for high-pressure injection systems for diesel and heavy-fuel engines has developed numerous new technologies – such as the world’s first common-rail injection system for large diesel engines. For Tognum, fuel injection is a key technology which makes the crucial difference when it comes to cutting life-cycle costs and achieving sustainable reductions in fuel consumption for diesel engines.

“Our subsidiary L’Orange has continually made technological history,” stated Christof von Branconi, Member of the Tognum Executive Board and with responsibility for the Business Unit "Onsite Energy & Components". “Our shared goal is to create the financial conditions for L’Orange to be able to continue to grow as successfully as it has up to now.”

In the past four years, the company has doubled its sales revenue to more than €140 million in 2007. At present, L’Orange is investing €16 million in the expansion of its production capacities. The growth of the business is also evident from the size of the workforce: today the company employs 850 people – 30 percent more than four years ago.

With the invention of the diesel prechamber almost a hundred years ago, Prosper L’Orange laid the foundations for the company. The actual beginning of its history was marked by the founding of Gebrüder L’Orange Motorzubehör GmbH 75 years ago by his son Rudolf. Since then, the company has developed numerous technological innovations which it has safeguarded with large numbers of patents. Those that particularly stand out are the dual-volume nozzle for turbojet engines, the unit injector for high-performance diesel engines and the monoblock pump for economical engine operation.

“Creativity, know-how and not least an open culture are the reason for the lasting success of our company,” explained L’Orange CEO, Ralph-Michael Schmidt. “That has enabled us to constantly extend our lead in technology and innovation in the field of fuel injection systems for large-scale engines.”
