Tognum sets the standard for U.S. EPA Tier 4 final engines

• Company presents solutions for the U.S. emission stage EPA Tier 4 final, which comes into force in 2014, at the U.S. construction industry trade show Conexpo
• New engines for construction and industrial applications meet the new emission targets with even less fuel consumption

Friedrichshafen/Las Vegas, 22 March 2011. The specialist for propulsion and power solutions Tognum is already showcasing its new construction and industrial engines for the stricter U.S. emission stage EPA Tier 4 final, which does not come into force until 2014. The company presents its future mtu engine portfolio across the power output range from 100 to 3,000 kW (135 to 4,020 bhp) at the Conexpo construction industry trade show in Las Vegas/USA.

In the range up to 560 kW (750 bhp), Tognum supplies EPA Tier 4 interim engines of Series 400, 500 and 900. This interim standard came into force at the start of this year. For Tier 4 final, new engines of Series 1000, 1100, 1300 and 1500 will join the line-up. Both the current and the future engines for this power output range are based on Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle engines, which Tognum adapts to meet specific off-highway requirements.
With its Series 1000 to 1500 engines, Tognum is one of the world's first engine manufacturers already able to showcase an entire engine family for Tier 4 final below 560 kW (750 bhp), giving OEMs ample time to optimize their applications for the new engines. From 2014, the mtu Series 1600 engines will cover the power output range from 567 to 730kW (760 to 980 bhp) for Tier 4 final.
Tognum also presents the new generations of its tried-and-trusted Series 2000 and 4000 engines in Las Vegas. They are designed to fulfill the new emission limits using only in-engine technology, that is to say without additional exhaust gas aftertreatment. One benefit for customers is the space requirement, which is comparable to that for the current generations.
The engines on display at the Conexpo show power a very wide range of construction and industrial applications such as dump trucks, excavators, construction and harbor cranes, and even mining equipment.
