  • Corporate Health Award puts Tognum among top ten in the industry
  • Long-term promotion of good health enhances competitiveness

Friedrichshafen, December 21, 2012. Tognum, the specialist for drive system and power generation solutions and its subsidiary MTU Friedrichshafen represent role models in their commitment to employee health and fitness for work. In 2012, the company had its preventive healthcare arrangements assessed, and, having achieved above-average results, has been carrying the 'Corporate Health Awards' seal of quality since November. “We’re proud that our health management portfolio puts us among the top ten in the industry. Our sustainable strategy for good health also enhances our long-term competitiveness,” explained Patrick Müller, who works in employee health management at Tognum.

Apart from protecting natural resources, corporate sustainability is also about creating an optimum working relationship with employees who put in a top performance for the company every day. Tognum therefore recognizes its obligations regarding the physical well-being of its staff, and encourages a sense of responsibility for and awareness of personal health. Only when a member of staff is healthy and content will he or she be motivated and successful, both now and in the long term. Tognum’s integrated health concept focuses on sport and exercise, a good diet, preventive medicine, the work-life balance and also occupational health and safety. Health management at Tognum was re-organized in 2011 in cooperation with the company health insurance service, the works medical service, and HR. For the very first time, a comprehensive health report is to be issued for 2012, documenting the measures which have been taken, evaluating their efficiency and effectiveness and defining targets based on key figures. A health survey conducted at the subsidiaries MTU Reman Technologies in Magdeburg and L’Orange in Glatten und Stuttgart will supply further results to help optimize the existing measures.

Under the motto `Long-term Individual Promotion of Personal Responsibility´ (German acronym 'LIFE'), Tognum offers a broad range of in-company health promotion measures such as health care days, lectures, and initiatives for high-risk groups such as smoking cessation seminars, nutrition counseling, back training, diabetes check-ups and colon cancer screening. The LIFE program has been in place at all Tognum locations in Germany since 2011. During health days, employees can take a three-day time-out from work to analyze their lifestyle and eating and working habits and see where these can be improved. The company also offers group courses in sport and exercise.   Tognum staff can also benefit from flexible, family-friendly work time schemes, work from home, and child care during school holidays, all of which is affirmed in the 'reconciliation of job and family' certificate that the company holds.
