Best performance at every moment

The key to optimal results in the operation of our mtu marine gensets lies in the combination of state-of-the-art technology with flexible systems. This flexibility allows the operating costs of the variable speed gensets to be reduced noticeably. The decisive factor in this is our patented Superior System Controller (SSC), which has been tried and tested over many years and analyzes the requirements placed on the genset.

With this analysis, the SSC can deliver exactly the performance required of the genset at any given moment. A bonus: optimized operation also allows maintenance intervals to be individually adjusted and extended. To ensure that you can always expect exactly the performance you need, we also offer precise simulations and calculations that guarantee cost efficiency and safety.

Low emissions. Maximum flexibility.

As installation space is always restricted inside the engine room, the inhouse developed airless SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) solution from mtu is compact and maintenance friendly. Besides easily accessible doors for replacement of the SCR catalysts, the system also features an integrated mixing pipe and dosing units. The integrated mixing pipe and DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) dosing allows the shipyard highly flexible pipework between the engine and the SCR box. Additional space to fit the exhaust gas aftertreatment is reduced to a bare minimum. Amonia slip is prevented under all operating conditions by a closed loop regulated control system.

When using EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) technology, the quality of the fuel is essential. Fuel with more than 15 ppm sulfur will lead to the formation of sulfur acid in the EGR cooling process. Sulfur acid will cause substantial engine failures over time. As many vessels operate worldwide, especially in the offshore service and supply business, mtu evaluates SCR as the preferred solution to maintain reliability of our engines and the safety of your vessel and crew. SCR technology allows operation with lower fuel quality.

SCR box

Available as vertically or horizontally arranged SCR box. Or SCR box designed as a cube, for assembling in horizontal direction.

Maintenance doors

The maintenance doors allow easy replacement of the SCR catalyst.

Dosing units

The two DEF dosing units work airlessly and are built into the SCR box.

Mixing pipe

The integrated mixing pipe allows highly flexible piping between the engine and the SCR box and saves installation space.

Sustainable fuels make internal combustion engines cleaner

Modern power-to-X technologies use green electricity in electrolysis to produce hydrogen. Using C02 from the air or biomass, this hydrogen is converted into e-fuels such as e-methane, e-methanol or e-diesel. Power-to-X technology makes the C02-neutral cycle possible. By 2023, our leading series will be able to run on sustainable fuels such as e- and second-generation biofuels. In parallel, our developers are working on hydrogen and methanol engines.

Encapsulation and Mounting

Sound encapsulation and engine mountings for marine engines involves the strategic implementation of soundproofing materials and design modifications to reduce noise emissions from the engine compartment.
This process aims to contain the noise at its source, preventing it from
escaping and propagating through the water and surrounding environment. Depending on the application different targets can be achieved such as raised passenger comfort in yachts to enhanced tactical advantages for frigates based on the lower noise levels. mtu engines can optional be equipped with enhanced mounting and sound encapsulation technologies and contracted sound levels via our internal engineering experts.
