  • Rolls-Royce Power Systems commends best suppliers
  • Spaichingen engineering works three times a winner

Friedrichshafen, July 2, 2014. Rolls-Royce Power Systems AG, parent company of MTU Friedrichshafen, has presented awards in four categories to its best suppliers in 2013. These were handed over personally by Jörg Schwitalla, the member of the Executive Board responsible for HR, Integrity and Operations, and Erik Manning, head of Purchasing. "Our annual Supplier Awards are a token of recognition to suppliers who have excelled in terms of quality and performance," said Jörg Schwitalla.

The Maschinenfabrik Spaichingen (Spaichingen engineering works) has now received the accolade for the third time. The company supplies finished parts such as valve levers and was singled out by Rolls-Royce Power Systems AG as best finished-parts supplier for its outstanding quality. "A repeat win like this attests the consistent quality of this supplier's products. So far, very few suppliers have won this accolade three times," said Erik Manning. The Supplier Award for castings went to the Zollern foundry in Sigmaringendorf where turbine wheels for turbochargers on all mtu engine models are produced. The Centa company based in Haan manufactures flexible couplings for electrical gensets and picked up the award as best supplier to mtu Onsite Energy Systems, the Rolls-Royce Power Systems subsidiary. The AMZ Rolf Ziegler company from Illingen supplies injector magnets for injector pumps on large engines and was likewise named best supplier to subsidiary L’Orange.

Rolls-Royce Power Systems has a worldwide pool of some 1,500 suppliers of production material from which to choose winners. The jury evaluates them on the basis of quality, logistics, eco-friendliness and cooperativeness and the results are transmitted to them on a monthly basis. This also makes for continual improvement of cooperation with suppliers. By granting awards, Rolls-Royce Power Systems wishes to demonstrate to its suppliers that it pays attention to and appraises their performance. "This commendation is also an excellent advertisement for our suppliers, who like to show it to new customers," said Erik Manning.
