FRIEDRICHSHAFEN – The mtu Indoor Soccer Cup was held for the 14th time on December 3 and 4. The tournament has developed a reputation as a key European sporting event. This year saw around 265 talented youngsters taking part, representing 23 clubs from a total of 11 countries. mtu has been the event's main sponsor since the very beginning. The mtu brand is part of Rolls-Royce Power Systems.
In an exciting final on Sunday, the Eintracht Frankfurt youth team beat Barcelona 'Grana' FC 4:2, adding another win to its tally, having lifted the cup before in 2008. Third place went to Bayern Munich, with Borussia Dortmund following hot on their heels. Youssoufa Moukoko of Borussia Dortmund won two accolades: 'Best Player' and 'Best Goal-Scorer'. Marc Brüll of Borussia Mönchengladbach was delighted at his 'Best Goalkeeper' award.

This year as well, the mtu Indoor Soccer Cup provided local teams with an opportunity to try their luck against the top clubs. Five regional teams took up the challenge, thereby gaining valuable tournament experience.

The winning cup was presented by Dr Ulrich Dohle, President of Rolls-Royce Power Systems AG and CEO of subsidiary MTU Friedrichshafen GmbH. “Being ambitious and chasing your objectives really pays off – just look at Joshua Kimmich,” said Dohle. “Seven years ago, Kimmich was playing for the VfB Stuttgart youth team at the mtu Indoor Soccer Cup, and now he's one of the big names to watch, performing well in the Bundesliga and establishing himself in the German national team,” he added.

“This year's mtu Indoor Soccer Cup was simply superb. The quarter finals, semi-finals and the final itself were absolutely top-notch. Five matches ended up being decided on penalties,” said Klaus Segelbacher from club VfB Friedrichshafen, who organised the event. “We also saw record visitor numbers on Sunday – the arena was sold out, and 7,500 spectators attended over the two days,” he added.
