Tognum to deliver Emergency Power Gensets for Indian Air Traffic Hub

• New terminal at Indira Ghandi International Airport to be furnished with emergency power gensets based on mtu Onsite Energy diesel engines
• Tognum to serve growing Indian market for onsite energy generation

Friedrichshafen, 12 November 2008. The specialist for propulsion and power solutions Tognum is making further advances in the Asian growth market. Indian energy systems manufacturer Sterling Generators has recently awarded a contract for 14 large diesel engines for emergency power supply gensets to Tognum business unit Onsite Energy & Components. These gensets are designed to supply the new terminal 3 at the Indian air traffic hub Indira Gandhi International Airport when power outages occur. This order comes with an option for the delivery of eight additional engines.
These 14 20V 4000 G63L diesel engines will be delivering an electrical output of 33.6 megawatts. With a power output like this, these emergency power gensets would supply 90,000 households in Germany with electrical power. A decisive factor for the customer to award this contract to Sterling Generators/Tognum was the engines’ supreme reliability.

The New Delhi Airport is currently being modernized and significantly expanded by operator Delhi International Airport Private Limited. Among other, the operator consortium includes the German Fraport AG. More than 23 million passengers are currently being served every year. Four additional passenger terminals are scheduled to be built by 2026. The new third terminal, which will be furnished with mtu Onsite Energy diesel engine-based emergency power gensets, is to be finished by 2010. Current plans envisage an expansion of the present service capacity to approximately 27 million passengers per year.

As strategic partners, they both serve the continuously growing Indian market for power generation systems. Final customers acquiring these power generation plants include banks, real estate, infrastructure projects, electrical utilities companies, IT companies or hospitals, which depend on absolutely reliable emergency power concepts.
