FC SCHALKE 04 WINS 13TH mtu INDOOR FOOTBALL CUP

• FC Schalke 04 beats Ajax Amsterdam in final by score of 1:0
• mtu-Leistungszentrum best local team
• 6,500 spectators at youth indoor soccer tournament

FRIEDRICHSHAFEN, GERMANY – FC Schalke 04 won 1:0 in the final of the 13th mtu Indoor Football Cup held at the ZF-Arena in Friedrichshafen on Sunday, December 6. The youth team prevailed in an exciting final against Ajax Amsterdam, taking home the winner's trophy for the second time. Third place went to FC Barcelona “Blue” followed by Manchester United. The only local team to make it through the preliminary round was the mtu-Leistungszentrum, which finished in 15th place. Fati Ansumane from FC Barcelona “Blue” won the “Best Player” trophy, while the awards for “Best Goalkeeper” and “Top Goalscorer” were scooped by Markus Messerle from VfB Friedrichshafen 2 and Mick Gudra from FC Schalke 04 respectively.

Rolls-Royce Power Systems Head of HR Ingo Metzer presented the trophies accompanied by the Mayor of Friedrichshafen Andreas Köster. “The mtu Indoor Football Cup was once again a great event for Friedrichshafen and the surrounding area. This tournament thrills us year after year, and we are proud to have been part of it for 13 years now with our mtu brand as main sponsor,” said Metzer.

Around 270 young soccer talents from 24 clubs in eight different countries took part in the 13th mtu Indoor Football Cup. Around 6,500 spectators watched the games on Saturday and Sunday, according to the soccer division of local club VfB Friedrichshafen, which staged the event. “Many of the fans came from the local region. But many parents and numerous scouts from all over Europe on the lookout for young talent were also in attendance again this year,” stated Klaus Segelbacher, who organized the event for VfB Friedrichshafen's soccer division. “We are very proud that we were able to attract the best European youth teams once again and, with the support of our sponsors and many helping hands, put together this wonderful tournament,” added Segelbacher.
