  • Collaboration with Overmarine and Sanlorenzo to be continued and intensified
  • Rolls-Royce to implement future solutions such as hybrid drives and integrated bridge with both customers
  • Cooperation with Sea Machines Robotics to offer complete automation solutions from a single source including remote and autonomous control systems

Rolls-Royce achieved significant sales successes at the Monaco Yacht Show and signed agreements on the use of mtu future technologies – demonstrating how decisively the company is moving forward as a pioneer of sustainable maritime propulsion technology. At the fair, the company signed framework agreements with renowned yacht builders, and together with the leading developer of autonomous control systems it intends to offer customers complete solutions that intelligently steer ships without human intervention.

With this goal in mind, Rolls-Royce will be working with Sea Machines Robotics in the future. The cooperation will focus on so-called smart ship solutions, which, among other things, will enable the fully and semi-autonomous operation of yachts. The combination of Rolls-Royce’s propulsion and automation solutions with Sea Machines’ smart ship control systems will offer marine customers significant benefits in terms of vessel operations, safety, efficiency and environmental impact.
Denise Kurtulus, Vice President Global Marine at Rolls-Royce Power Systems, is excited about the collaboration with Sea Machines: “As part of our PS 2030 strategy, we are evolving from a propulsion supplier to a provider of integrated sustainable solutions. We want to provide our customers with complete solutions from bridge to propeller. In Sea Machines we have found another strong and agile partner to achieve this.”

Rolls-Royce to join forces with Overmarine and Sanlorenzo for the future with mtu technologies

Rolls-Royce also announced at the Monaco Yacht Show that it will continue its successful collaboration with renowned yacht builders Overmarine and Sanlorenzo. In the coming years, both companies plan to join Rolls-Royce in taking mtu technologies into the future. Rolls-Royce will continue to supply Overmarine with Series 2000 mtu engines for its Mangusta family of yachts. In addition, options to supply mtu hybrid propulsion and the state-of-the-art mtu NautIQ Bridge integrated bridge solution are part of the framework agreement, which will run from 2022-24. The delivery of an emission-free mtu fuel cell system is also planned for the future. The contract provides for the delivery of more than 60 mtu engines, including those that comply with the IMO III emissions directive with exhaust aftertreatment if required. The contract continues a decades-long partnership between the two companies.

Sanlorenzo to build first yacht with fully integrated mtu NautIQ Bridge system

With Sanlorenzo, Rolls-Royce will also deepen its partnership and jointly advance future technologies. Over the next three years, Rolls-Royce will be one of the leading suppliers for Sanlorenzo within the next three years as main propulsion provider for certain yachts of the SL line, delivering mtu 10V, 12V and 16V 2000 yacht engines with a compact IMO III solution.  Sanlorenzo will also be one of the first builders to equip a yacht with the new fully integrated mtu NautIQ Bridge solution.

“We are delighted to be deepening relationships with two such important customers as Overmarine and Sanlorenzo and to be working together for a sustainable future for the yachting industry,” said Denise Kurtulus.
