Tognum provides prospects for skilled young workers at its Friedrichshafen location

• 47 “winter finishers” start work in six vocational areas
• 3 Chamber of Industry & Commerce award winners
• End-of-course event in Karl-Maybach-Haus

Friedrichshafen, 30 March 2010. 47 newly qualified skilled workers have now completed their training at the Friedrichshafen location of propulsion and power specialist Tognum and despite the difficult economic situation, all of this year’s “winter finishers” will be starting permanent contracts with Tognum subsidiary MTU Friedrichshafen. Depending on their trade specialism, the young people spent two and a half or three and a half years training at the Friedrichshafen location.
50 trainees in commercial and technical professions, together with students from the Cooperative State University will be completing their courses at Tognum this summer. Together with their trainers, the `ex-trainees´ will be celebrating their entry into working life at an end-of-course event this evening in the canteen of the Friedrichshafen facility.
“Investment in training represents a major contribution toward securing the qualified workforce Tognum will need in the future. At the same time, it is also a statement by the company in recognition of its social responsibility as an employer”, said Dr. Klaus Waldschmidt, head of Personnel Development, Training and Education at Tognum. “I’m especially pleased that three of our trainees, Felix Müller, Markus Schöllhorn and Stefan Weiß also won awards from the Chamber of Industry & Commerce (IHK).” “Particularly in difficult times such as these, the opportunity of career prospects which employment with the company brings is a great gesture to the new generation of workers”, added Carina Kiesle, deputy chairperson of the Youth and Trainees’ Representative Council.
Among the 47 newly qualified young people are 27 industrial mechanics, a model-making mechanic, 4 machine assemblers, 8 electronic automation technicians, 6 mechatronics technicians and 1 security services specialist. The company’s training program at its Friedrichshafen location currently includes a total of 266 trainees in ten different vocational areas and six different course types.
