mtu Onsite Energy shows gensets for building sites at Bauma exhibition

Friedrichshafen/Munich, 29 January 2013. Tognum is to showcase diesel gensets carrying the mtu Onsite Energy brand at the Bauma construction machinery exhibition in Munich from 15-21 April. The gensets will be displayed in the open-air area (45A, booth 106) and include a hooded genset based on a 12V 1600 engine with 660 kVA power output, suitable for open-air use on building sites. The genset hood is both sound and weather-proof and protects the genset from weather influences and contamination while reducing noise emissions. Also on display is an mtu Onsite Energy genset based on a 16V 4000 engine with 2,595 kVA power output. Turnkey containerized diesel gensets are suitable both for stationary and mobile applications. They include full system engineering with cooling and control systems and are convenient to install on site.

Diesel gensets from mtu Onsite Energy are particularly suitable for use in remote areas. One example is Ethiopia, where the world’s biggest dam – the Renaissance dam – is under construction at the lower Nile tributary and where a reliable power supply is to be secured using gensets until the dam starts generating power itself on completion in 2017.   Here, a total of 16 mtu Onsite Energy gensets based on Series 4000 engines run up to 18 hours a day, delivering over 40MW of power to the huge, remotely located construction site.   At the Canadian mining company Tech Coal, mtu Onsite Energy gensets deliver power to mobile platforms which are used to shift electric rope shovels. The rope shovels are supplied with power externally for normal operation, but need on-site power for transport from one pit to the next.
