Four new snowblowers powered by OM500 engines clear the tracks and are pushed along by the new service locomotive.
Test runs under arctic conditions: the new service locomotive with Rhaetian Railway wagons just ahead of the snow-covered Bernina Pass at an altitude of 2,253 m.
The snow-blowers can be fully extended to a width of 6 m.
The Ospizio Bernina railway station at the top of the Bernina Pass lies at an altitude of 2,253 m.

mtu Power for Heavy-duty Steelworks Locomotives

As many as 28 locomotives are available for operation at the voestalpine Steel Division plant in Linz. Four of them are Gmeinder type D60 C marshaling locomotives each driven by an mtu Series 1600 engine. The locomotives operate on company premises hauling trains that can weigh up to 3,000 tonnes each. Two more units of the same type are on order with delivery scheduled by the end of 2015. The locomotives are operated by logistics company LogServ, a wholly-owned subsidiary of voestalpine Stahl GmbH.
