Friedrichshafen, 30 November 2007. FC Bayern Munich, Schalke 04, Borussia Dortmund, the U15 national team from Luxembourg and many other national and international top youth teams will participate in the mtu Indoor Cup to be held at the Bodensee Sports Hall in Friedrichshafen on Saturday and Sunday, December 8-9. Together with seven teams from the region and the Friedrichshafen Youth Football Performance Center, the teams will provide first-class football. The mtu Indoor Cup is meanwhile the most important event of its kind in Europe.

The first round will take place on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until 7:00 p.m., and the second round will be on Sunday from 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. with the final starting at 3:40 p.m. The event’s main sponsor is MTU Friedrichshafen. The biggest company of Tognum AG is thus continuing its support for youth activities in the region.

The mtu Indoor Cup is meanwhile highly regarded both nationally and internationally. It is therefore no surprise that top youth teams will be playing against each other in the Bodensee Hall once again this year in the second week in December. Eintracht Frankfurt, Borussia Dortmund, Hannover 96, FC Bayern Munich, Schalke 04, VfB Stuttgart and Herta BSC Berlin are the participants from Germany’s national level. International flair will be added by PSV Eindhoven, the U15 national team from Luxembourg, FK Austria Magna Vienna, Besiktas Istanbul, FK Red Star Belgrade, Red Bull Salzburg, AC Sparta Prague, FC Basel 1893 and Olympic Sarajevo. Against this strong opposition, eight regional teams will test their skills; they are sure to perform well once again and should provide one or two surprises: VfB Friedrichshafen, the team from the Friedrichshafen Performance Center, TSV Tettnang, SC Markdorf, TSG Ailingen, SG Fischbach-Schnetzenhausen, Sportfreunde Friedrichshafen und SV Kressbronn.

The tournament plan has meanwhile been competed, so football fans can look forward to exciting matches such as Red Star Belgrade versus VfB Stuttgart, Sparta Prague versus SG Fischbach-Schnetzenhausen, Hertha BSC Berlin versus U15 Luxembourg or Eintracht Frankfurt versus Friedrichshafen Performance Center.

VfB manager Klaus Segelbacher expects large numbers of spectators, as in previous years. “This began five years ago as a small event, and is now the cup of its kind with the highest quality in Europe. An event like this would be impossible without the support of MTU Friedrichshafen,” explained Klaus Segelbacher.

mtu has been main sponsor since the event started in 2002. The mtu Indoor Cup was initiated with the establishment of the Youth Football Performance Center, where VfB Friedrichshafen supports and encourages particularly talented players from all of the town’s clubs. Through intensive youth work and targeted support, ambitious youths are to be given the possibility to further develop their football skills. MTU Friedrichshafen is delighted to support this concept. Because football promotes the values that are important for the company: high performance, competition, team spirit and social skills.
