Friedrichshafen/Stuttgart, 23 April 2008. The Tognum subsidiary L’Orange GmbH, a specialist for high-pressure injection systems for diesel and heavy-fuel engines based in Stuttgart, doubled its sales revenue in the past four years to more than €140 million in 2007. In order to achieve further growth in the future, L’Orange is investing €16 million in the expansion of its production capacities.
The main reason for the strong increase in revenue is the growth of two of L’Orange’s major customers: the Tognum subsidiary MTU Friedrichshafen and Wärtsilä. Unit sales of injection systems for MTU Friedrichshafen’s Series 4000 engine have tripled in the past four years. A good ten years ago, the Series 4000 high-speed diesel engines were the first large diesel engines with common-rail injection technology, which is now already being applied in the second generation. Electronically controlled high-pressure fuel injection is one of the key technologies for diesel engines with low emissions and fuel consumption. For the customer Wärtsilä, L’Orange primarily supplies heavy-fuel injection systems for medium-speed engines and dual-fuel systems for heavy fuel or gas operation.
In order to further expand the business with ultra-modern common-rail injectors, additional production capacities will be created in Glatten in Germany’s Black Forest region by the beginning of 2009. L’Orange is investing approximately €8 million in the expansion of its production space and an additional €8 million in the creation of new production equipment in both Glatten and the plant in Wolfratshausen.

Its product portfolio includes diesel engines in the power range from 20 to 9,100 kW, gas engine systems, gas turbines and fuel cells and is one of the most modern and comprehensive in its sector. In addition, the group develops and manufactures custom-made electronic control and monitoring systems for its engines and propulsion systems.
Sales of the Tognum Group amounted to more than EUR 2.8 billion in 2007. By the end of 2007, the Group employed approximately 8,200 personnel worldwide. It maintains a global sales and distribution network including 22 subsidiaries, more than 130 distribution partners and 1,100 authorized dealers.
The Tognum subsidiary L’Orange GmbH is a profitable, growing company with numerous pioneering achievements and patents, and is a technology leader in its core segments. High-pressure fuel-injection systems from L’Orange allow the combination of low pollutant emissions, low fuel consumption and long lifetime. These efficient injection systems are essential for the operation of environmentally friendly diesel engines. With a comprehensive range of tried-and-tested conventional injection systems as well as innovative common-rail systems, L’Orange provides the ideal technology for all applications in the power range from 1,000 to 40,000 kilowatts. The injection systems’ high pressures of up to 2,000 bar require the smallest manufacturing tolerances of down to 0.001 mm and a maximum of cleanliness in the production process.
