Friedrichshafen/Augsburg, 5 July 2010. The Tognum Group has won two orders from France for the supply of gas-engine gensets to industrial customers. The car manufacturers Peugeot and Smart are to use the combined heat and power plants in their factories in Mülhausen and Hambach in the French region of Alsace. The orders cover a total of nine co-generation power plants carrying the Tognum brand mtu  Onsite Energy and were placed by SDMO, the French power plant manufacturer based in Brest.

“These two projects mark our entry into the French market for gensets powered by gas engines”, explains Christof von Branconi, member of the Tognum executive board and responsible for the business unit Onsite Energy & Components. “They also show that our strategy for supplying international industrial customers with co-generation power plants is working.” The orders count among the biggest ever received in the thirty-year history of the Tognum production site in Augsburg. The supply scope also includes maintenance services such as the provision of spare parts and on-call technical support for the user. The total order volume is worth over 2.5  million euros.

The gensets built at Tognum’s site in Augsburg each comprise an mtu  gas engine Type 16V 4000 L62, the generator, and the control system. The combined heat and power plant destined for the Peugeot factory in Mülhausen is capable of generating over 12  megawatts of thermal and up to 11  megawatts of electrical power. The plant for the Smart factory in Hambach provides over 3  megawatts of thermal and 3  megawatts of electrical power. Waste heat is used in an ecologically sound and energy-efficient way to produce warm water and steam for heating, and excess electric power is fed into the public grid.
