ROLLS-ROYCE SUBSIDIARY mtu SUPPLIES TEN EMERGENCY DIESEL GENSETS TO NUCLEAR POWER PLANT IN BELARUS

Rolls-Royce subsidiary MTU Friedrichshafen has won an order for supplying Ostrovets 1&2, the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), with ten emergency diesel gensets (EDGs).

FRIEDRICHSHAFEN, GERMANY – Rolls-Royce subsidiary MTU Friedrichshafen has won an order for supplying Ostrovets 1&2, the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), with ten emergency diesel gensets (EDGs). The customer is mtu’s long term partner in this segment, general contractor Zvezda Energetika from St. Petersburg in Russia. The deal is worth several tens of millions of Euros.
Each genset delivers an electrical power output of 6,300 kW. These are the most powerful gensets in mtu's portfolio and are based on its latest high-speed 20V 956 TB34 engines, whose output is almost 5% higher than the previous version. mtu is part of Rolls-Royce Power Systems within the Land & Sea division of Rolls-Royce.
The first nuclear power plant in Belarus is being built by ROSATOM, the Russian state atomic energy corporation, and is to start commercial operation from 2018. With this plant, Belarus intends to reduce the country's dependence on energy imports. The gensets are to be supplied in 2016 and 2017 for the plant's two pressurized-water reactors VVER 1200.

mtu has successfully taken part in numerous projects involving the supply of emergency diesel gensets to nuclear power plants with VVER reactors in the last few years. These include Tianwan 1&2 and 3&4 in China, Novovoronezh II 1&2 in Russia and Mochovce 3&4 in Slovakia.
