In July, 37 apprentices successfully completed their job training at Rolls-Royce Power Systems in Friedrichshafen. In September, 32 students at the Cooperative State University will be gaining dual study degrees.

FRIEDRICHSHAFEN, GERMANY – In July, 37 apprentices successfully completed their job training at Rolls-Royce Power Systems in Friedrichshafen. In September, 32 students at the Cooperative State University will be gaining dual study degrees. All newly qualified staff are to be offered permanent contracts at the company.

“Motivated next-generation staff will form the backbone of our company’s future development,” said Marcus A. Wassenberg, Labour Director and Executive Board member carrying the HR portfolio. He went on to emphasize the high standard of the training given by Rolls-Royce Power Systems, which is both practical in focus and technologically advanced and provides young people with an excellent basis for starting their careers. Besides 15 industrial mechanics, the newly qualified juniors include six mechatronic and six metalworking technicians. Two construction mechanics, a specialist in automation electronics and four technical product designers will also be beginning their new jobs at Rolls-Royce Power Systems. Freshly qualified on the commercial side are two industrial management assistants and a social security specialist. “The end of training marks the beginning of a life-long process of learning in practice. And today, we are facing a new radical change called ‘Industry 4.0’. This revolution will open many doors to smart young staff,” said head of production Dr Dirk Geisinger.

Maximilian Bardua, construction mechanic; Simon Huster, industrial mechanic, and Fabian Schmidt, specialist in automation electronics were commended for their excellent grades with a special accolade from the Chamber of Industry and Commerce in the Lake Constance-Upper Swabia region. Besides those singled out by the Chamber of Commerce, Eva Bottling also received an accolade for achieving top grades as a social security specialist. “I’m very proud of the fact that we again have prize-winners on this year’s roster and I’d like to congratulate all of them on their excellent achievements,” said head of training Martin Stocker, who is equally pleased by the fact that everyone qualifying this summer is being taken on in their specialized area.

In September, another 32 students will be completing their dual study courses at the Cooperative State University in Ravensburg. 13 will be qualifying in mechanical and nine in electrical engineering, while five are set to gain their bachelor degrees in industrial engineering and another five in International Business. For some of these students, completion of their bachelor qualification marks the kick-off into their working life, while others will go on to study for a masters’ degree. “It’s very important that we make an investment in well-trained, capable, and motivated young staff if we want to safeguard our future in this region. In a world that is changing so dramatically, we are dependent more than ever before on having solidly qualified next-generation staff,” said Works Council Chairman Thomas Bittelmeyer.

Rolls-Royce Power Systems is currently providing training to some 470 young people worldwide in twelve different vocational training disciplines and 10 courses of higher study. At L’Orange, the RRPS subsidiary in Glatten, 15 industrial mechanics and two dual-study mechanical engineering students will be completing their programs. Three youngsters have finished their apprenticeships at the Ruhstorf location in Bavaria, while at the Magdeburg-based subsidiary MTU Reman Technologies, one industrial mechanic and one cutting mechanic are due to qualify in January. In Bergen, Norway, 14 youngsters have completed their apprenticeships and two students their dual study courses. mtu America in Aiken (South Carolina) boasts five newly qualified metal-working specialists, and at mtu South Africa, four youngsters have successfully completed vocational training.
