To the Bauma, start the engines and go!

Large construction and mining machines bustle around the Bauma exhibition grounds in Munich. Among them: Rolls-Royce.

At Bauma, the world's largest mining and construction machinery trade fair in Munich, numerous manufacturers of dump trucks, cranes or mining machinery are represented. Rolls-Royce is also presenting its drive solutions. But the engines of the mtu brand are not only to be found on their own exhibition stand.

It's that time again: a familiar hum is in the air and hectic activity reigns on the ground. Metre-high lattice and crawler cranes cast their shadows on the visitors at their feet. Numerous agricultural machines, mining applications and industrial vehicles bustle around the exhibition grounds in Munich, the mood is as cheerful as at a folk festival. The reason: after three and a half years, Bauma, the world's largest and most important trade fair for construction and mining machinery, will take place from 24 to 30 October. More than 3,100 exhibitors from all over the world will present tried-and-tested but ultra-modern classics as well as new products and prototypes on an area of 614,000 square metres. Also represented: Rolls-Royce. Under the motto "Pioneering the Journey to Net Zero", the company presents future solutions for propulsion and energy supply to pave the way to a more climate-friendly future.

"Bauma offers an excellent opportunity for cross-industry exchange. At the trade fair it becomes clear that the topic of sustainability is also highly relevant here," says Stefan Rudert, Director C&I and Agriculture Business at Rolls-Royce's Power Systems division. "For our Journey to Net Zero, we are working on fuel cell solutions or battery electric drives for agricultural and industrial applications. We also see the approval of all engines for the use of sustainable fuels as an important step towards a more climate-neutral future. "

This direction also dominates the trade fair stand. Fuel cell and battery-electric drive for a wheel loader are two examples of new technologies that can be used as a solution for drive and infrastructure in the future. As central topics, they provide an outlook on how the holistic energy supply for this sector can be tackled in the future. Hybrid mining solutions are also shown in a simulation . Right next to it, there is also a model of a 4000 series mtu engine, half of which has been remanufactured, as used in mining applications, for example, and a model of a 1300 series engine, which allows deep insights into the interior. Both engines can be operated with sustainable fuels such as HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil). But mtu engines are not only to be found on the company's own stand. Well-known manufacturers from the industry will be presenting their applications all over the exhibition grounds. Under the bonnets: mtu brand engines.

Up high...

If you walk across the South open-air site, cranes are bustling about as far as the eye can see, colourful lattice masts towering into the sky. Quite a few of them can be found on the Manitowoc stand. As a globally active manufacturer of crawler cranes, tower cranes, mobile telescopic cranes and truck-mounted cranes, the company is a regular guest at Bauma. With the Grove GMK 6400-1, Manitowoc is exhibiting one of its most successful classics. In addition to a lifting capacity of 400 tonnes, the crane also offers various improvements compared to its predecessor model. These include, for example, the CCS crane control system. The crane is equipped with a 1500 series mtu engine from Rolls-Royce. The engine has an output of 430 kilowatts and complies with the applicable exhaust emissions EU Stage V or EPA Tier 4. An mtu engine of the 1100 series is also installed in the newly introduced GMK 4100L-2 Hybrid.

Very close to Manitowoc, another crane manufacturer presents its products: Zoomlion. Despite the colourful surroundings, the green cranes particularly stand out. The Chinese manufacturer's product range includes truck cranes, tower cranes, excavators, bulldozers, combine harvesters and tractors. The new All Terrian Crane ATC1000 is also equipped with a Rolls-Royce engine. The mtu 1100 engine delivers up to 340 kilowatts of power. This enables powerful performance without taking up a lot of space.

A stone's throw away is the manufacturer Tadano. Here, too, things are looking up, because the PC 38.650-1 lattice boom crawler crane can reach a height of 193 metres. It can be used to install wind turbines up to 170 metres high. The maximum load capacity is 650 tonnes. Quite a heavyweight. It is driven by an mtu 1300 series engine with an output of 350 kilowatts. Rolls-Royce engines can also be found in other crane models from the manufacturer. For example, in the AC 7.450-1 all-terrain crane or the AC 5.250-2.

... or down at the bottom

Construction machinery of a different kind can be found on the Bell stand. Here you will find dump trucks, wheel loaders and hydraulic excavators of all sizes. Hard to miss: The Bell B45E 4x4, an articulated dump truck that forms the centrepiece of the stand. It is used in raw material extraction, heavy earthworks and industrial applications. It is powered by an mtu 1300 series engine that complies with the strictest exhaust emission regulations and generates up to 390 kilowatts. Also on display is the Bell 30E 6x6, equipped with a 1000 series mtu engine.

The manufacturer Bomag specialises in machines for compacting asphalt, soil and waste. With more than 60 years of experience, the company is the world market leader in this field. A variety of products that support gardening and landscaping, complete traffic route construction or even dam construction are on display at the trade fair stand. The power in the new Bomag RS 500 soil stabiliser comes from an mtu 1300 series engine with an output of up to 380 kilowatts. The vehicle is used to stabilise or harden soils, for example.

The exhibitors at Bauma are numerous and there is a wide variety of agricultural,
construction and mining machinery of all sizes to discover. To experience the
hustle and bustle at first hand, there is still time until Sunday. But the applications
with mtu engines from Rolls-Royce are likely to be present in your everyday
life even after that - just look out for them!
