Tognum expands after-sales area through acquisition

The Tognum subsidiary MTU Friedrichshafen today signed a contract with the Dr. Gies group of companies on the complete acquisition of SKL Motor GmbH in Magdeburg. At the contract signing, Tognum CEO Volker Heuer stated: “With the purchase of SKL Motor GmbH, Tognum is effectively continuing its growth strategy in the field of after sales. We intend to expand by an average of approximately 10% per annum in this area during the coming years.” The acquisition will take effect as of January 1, 2008 and is still subject to approval by the German antitrust authorities. The two parties to the transaction have agreed to keep the purchase price confidential.

Tognum Executive Board Member for Sales and After Sales Rainer Breidenbach explained: “Now we can offer our customers a broader range of high-quality services for the general overhaul of mtu engines and components such as locomotive and genset engines.”
SKL is a manufacturer of diesel engines in Magdeburg, Germany, with a strong tradition and many years’ expertise. In combination with the future investment and the know-how of the Tognum subsidiary mtu, SKL will provide the basis for the new remanufacturing center for mtu diesel engines.

SKL-Motor GmbH produces medium-speed diesel engines in the power range of 500 kW to 2,350 kW (670 to 3,150 h.p.) and posted revenues of approximately €17 million in the 2006/2007 financial year. SKL’s existing range of engines for marine applications and power generation and its global customer relations will be continued. Furthermore, within the framework of a preferred partnership, the new subsidiary will supply the Dr. Gies group with engines and spare parts for cogeneration units on a vegetable-oil basis.
