  • 142 propulsion systems and genset engines for new Angolan fishing fleet

The Tognum subsidiary MTU Friedrichshafen is to supply a total of 142 propulsion systems and genset engines for 81 fishing vessels owned by the Angolan government. The contract volume amounts to approximately €20 million.
Dr. Salomao Xirimbimbi, the Angolan Minister for Fisheries, recently visited Friedrichshafen and was impressed by the excellent features of mtu’s engines. He emphasized that the contract was awarded to mtu because of confidence in mtu engines as well as the outstanding service provided by the company. The engines destined for Angola are of the Series S60, 2000 and 4000.
Angola is investing more than €200 million in the national fisheries and maritime surveillance. The Angolan fishery sector declined following the country’s independence in 1975, but today there are plans to build approximately 600 new fishing vessels. In addition to the primary application in the fishing fleet, these advanced engines for working ships will also be used in fishery-protection, cargo and multi-purpose vessels.
