- EU Stage IV and US EPA Tier 4 final from 2014 without diesel particulate filters
- Fuel consumption up to five percent lower
- From 2014, power range from 100 to 730 kilowatts
Friedrichshafen/Paris, 15 December 2011. At Intermat, the international exhibition for the construction and materials industries, Tognum will be showcasing its mtu-brand C&I engines (hall 5b/booth K 027) designed to meet the EU Stage IV and US EPA Tier 4 final emissions regulations scheduled for introduction in 2014. The newly-developed Series 1000, 1100, 1300 and 1500 engines meet the upcoming emissions limits using SCR exhaust aftertreatment technology only and will need no diesel particulate filters. The units cover the sub-560 kW power range. From 2014, Series 1600 C&I engines which meet EPA Tier 4 final regulations without SCR systems and without diesel particulate filters will be introduced to extend the range to 730 kW. The exhibition of the construction and materials industries takes place from 16 to 21 April in Paris.
“We are proud that, in the future, we will continue to be able to offer our customers engines without diesel particulate filters for all construction industry applications. They are cleaner than ever before and they use even less fuel than the current engines,” said Dr Ulrich Dohle, Tognum CTO, highlighting the company’s technological expertise as well as its competitive edge.
From 2014, mtu will be introducing its new Series 1000, 1100, 1300 and 1500 engines with outputs ranging from 100 to 460 kW. Based on Daimler technology, these units have been specially developed for off-highway applications in the construction, industrial and agricultural sectors and are suitable for powering a wide range of construction machinery such as excavators, mobile cranes, haul trucks, and wheel and telescope loaders. They will utilize an SCR exhaust aftertreatment system to achieve compliance with the extremely stringent limits set by EU Stage IV and EPA Tier 4 final for nitrogen oxides and particulate emissions, and need no diesel particulate filters to achieve any further particulate reduction. As early as 2010, when it presented its entire family of sub-560 kW industrial engines, mtu was one of the first engine manufacturers to meet the emissions regulations scheduled for 2014 in this sector. Compared with units designed for EU Stage IIIB or EPA Tier 4 interim, customers for the new engines will benefit from reductions of up to 5% in fuel consumption, an increase in service life of up to 20%, higher torque at low engine speeds, greater engine brake power and fast, straightforward maintenance.
From 2014, the program will be extended to 730 kW with the introduction of Series 1600 engines. These off-highway units can be used in haul trucks, wheel loaders, excavators, cranes and mining vehicles. They meet EPA Tier 4 final specifications using high-pressure common rail injection, 2-stage turbocharging and cooled exhaust gas recirculation. mtu placed particular emphasis on optimizing the combustion process in order to minimize fuel consumption. Overall, customers will benefit from an integrated system with low rebuilding and operating costs.
mtu’s role as a reliable partner for its customers does not rest exclusively on its products but equally on its service program mtu ValueCare. The program includes the fast and reliable supply of high-quality, original brand spare parts and is operated by more than 1,200 service centers worldwide.
