mtu’s Bauma presentation showcases engines fit for future emissions stages

At the Bauma show in Munich from 15 to 21 April 2013, Tognum subsidiary MTU Friedrichshafen GmbH will be presenting engines fit for future emissions regulations EU Stage IV and U.S. EPA Tier 4 final.
- Series 1000 to 1500 compliant with EU-Stage IV and EPA Tier 4f regulations
- Series 1600 units compliant with EPA Tier 4f
- New 12V 4000 also fit for EPA Tier 4i
Friedrichshafen/Munich, 29 January 2013. At the Bauma show in Munich from 15 to 21 April 2013, Tognum subsidiary MTU Friedrichshafen GmbH will be presenting engines fit for future emissions regulations EU Stage IV and U.S. EPA Tier 4 final. On display at booth 211/310 in Hall A4 of the world’s biggest trade show for construction machinery, mtu will be presenting its portfolio of engines for use in C&I and mining applications covering power outputs from 75 to 3,000kW. In the open-air area of the show (45A, booth 106), Tognum will also be presenting diesel gensets for power generation carrying the mtu Onsite Energy brand.
Power outputs up to 560kW are served by mtu’s 4 and 6-cylinder inline engines of Series 1000 and 6-cylinder inline units of Series 1100, 1300, and 1500. Equipped with SCR, these engines are able to meet the EU Stage IV requirements and U.S. EPA Tier 4 final requirements to apply from 2014. Engines with power outputs from 100 to 460kW are used, for example, to drive telescopic handlers, rotary snow ploughs, haul trucks, wheel loaders, mobile cranes, excavators and underground mining vehicles. For countries with less stringent emissions rules, mtu will continue to supply its renowned Series 900, 460 and 500 units for power outputs from 75 to 480kW.
From 2014, 10 and 12-cylinder units of Series 1600 will be extending the range up to 730kW power output. These off-highway engines are suitable for use in haul trucks, wheel loaders, pump drives, mining vehicles and other plant and meet EPA Tier 4 final requirements through the use of high pressure common rail injection, two-state turbo-charging and exhaust gas return with cooling system. To keep fuel consumption as low as possible, mtu focuses strongly on optimized combustion processes. Customers benefit overall from integral systems with low operating and conversion costs.
mtu’s product portfolio for power outputs above 560kW also contains 12 and 16-cylinder engines of Series 2000 for the 561 to 1,163kW range. These are available in a configuration compliant with EPA Tier 4 interim using in-engine technology only. Series 4000 engines are available with 8, 12, 16 and 20 cylinders for outputs up to 3000kW and meet EPA Tier 4 final requirements without the need for exhaust aftertreatment. New in this engine series is the EPA Tier 4i-compliant 12-cylinder unit. These engines are suitable for long-term service in wheel loaders, excavators, haul trucks, construction machinery for underground mining applications, and in heavy-duty mining vehicles operated in surface mines and stone quarries. mtu’s renowned Series 2000 and 4000 units continue to be available to countries allowing higher emissions thresholds.
