For one, you get a slim-and-trim and fully integrated drive solution offering a high degree of flexibility for a wide range of railcar types.
Both easy-to-install and eco-friendly, the mtu PowerPack Series 1800 delivers proven performance while immediately reducing carbon emissions by up to 25%. And that’s just the start. They can also be powered with EN 15940 and e-fuels to further lower emissions.
Durable, dependable and clean
Keeping things running is key for any railway operation. Our drive and system solutions for locomotives, push-pull trains and special-purpose vehicles have not only demonstrated durable and dependable performance in thousands of applications worldwide, but also clean operational efficiency.
Apart from loose engines, system solutions with mtu Series 1300 and 1500 optimally integrate all drive components into one compact solution, allowing for easy installation and maintenance. The same can be said of our heavy hitters – mtu Series 1600, 2000 and 4000. Most of them can be operated with synthetic fuels such as those according to the EN 15940 standard.
Cut carbon emissions by up to 90%, or even 100%
The term sustainable or alternative fuels describes a variety of different fuels. Only when these are produced with electricity generated entirely from renewable sources are they truly green and clean. Other factors like energy density, availability and local infrastructures also play a crucial role.
Most of our engines and PowerPacks are designed to run on both EN 15940 fuels like hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) as well as e-fuels based on e-hydrogen. When powered by the former, they cut CO2 emissions by as much as 90%. In the case of e-fuels, even eliminate them altogether.
