mtu: Single Brand for All DaimlerChrysler Marine Engines

• Series 2000 and 4000: World Engines with local options

Miami - From now on, mtu will be the single brand for all marine engines manufactured in the DaimlerChrysler group. Included are all marine engines manufactured by Detroit Diesel Corporation (DDC) in Redford, Michigan and mtu in Friedrichshafen, Germany.

mtu is well known globally for its leadership in diesel engine technology and marine propulsion systems. The mtu brand is well recognized in the mega-yacht market where DDC and mtu have historically maintained a market share of over 59 percent. mtu branded marine engines now represent a range of products for all marine applications from 350 to 12,250 HP. The engine Series S60, 2000 and 4000 play a key role in the marine application distributor business.

The single brand strategy was defined after DaimlerChrysler AG acquired DDC in October 2000. DaimlerChrysler now focuses its marine and other off-highway activities in a single business unit named DaimlerChrysler Off-Highway. Combining the strengths of mtu and DDC allows DaimlerChrysler Off-Highway to focus completely on the markets it serves worldwide. DaimlerChrysler Off-Highway is one of the world's largest manufacturers of diesel engines.

Within DaimlerChrysler Off-Highway, mtu and DDC have harmonized product development activities, product specifications, and sales and service organizations. In harmonizing the worldwide support organization, an integrated service network has been created with over 1400 authorized dealers and distributors worldwide. This support network is important for yacht owners and crews and gives them easy and fast access to the companies' products and services no matter where the travel.

Series 2000 and 4000: World Engines with local options

One of the major benefits for the market is the availability of the new "World Engines" of the Series 2000 and 4000. All marine engines built after January 1, 2003, will have identical technical features regardless of where they are manufactured, in Friedrichshafen or in Detroit. Market-specific options, previously offered only in the U.S. or only in Europe, will now be available worldwide. Shipyards, owners and captains will see an increase in available options.
