Volker Heuer to take over as CEO of MTU Friedrichshafen GmbH with effect from August 1, 2004

• Dr. Rolf A. Hanssen, after more than 10 years as CEO of mtu and Head of the DaimlerChrysler Off-Highway Business Unit, will terminate his contract as planned with effect from December 31, 2004

The Board of Management of DaimlerChrysler AG and the Supervisory Board of MTU Friedrichshafen GmbH have made a decision on the successor to Dr. Rolf A. Hanssen, who, on reaching retirement age, will terminate his contract of employment as planned with effect from the end of this year. Volker Heuer, who is currently still „Presidente de los Centros Industriales" of Mercedes-Benz Espana S. A., will with effect from August 1, 2004 take over as the CEO of MTU Friedrichshafen GmbH and Head of the DaimlerChrysler Off-Highway Business Unit.

This was confirmed on 25. May 2004 at an extraordinary meeting of the Supervisory Board of MTU Friedrichshafen. The Chairman of the mtu Supervisory Board and member of the DaimlerChrysler Board of Management, Dr. Rüdiger Grube, thanked
Dr. Rolf A. Hanssen for over ten years of very successful service as CEO of mtu: „Dr. Rolf Hanssen was instrumental in initiating the commercialization strategy of MTU Friedrichshafen. In the ten years in which he was CEO, the company was on a continuous upward trend."

Dr. Rüdiger Grube expressed his conviction that Volker Heuer is an excellent choice: „With Volker Heuer, MTU Friedrichshafen will in future be headed by a man who is ideally suited to the company. He has the necessary technical and managerial experience to lead mtu to a successful future."

The plants in Spain, which are responsible within the Commercial Vehicle Division of the DaimlerChrysler Group for the production of the Mercedes-Benz Vito and the VIANO series, have been managed extremely successfully since 1996 by Volker Heuer. Under his leadership, the plants in Vitoria and Barcelona have been fundamentally restructured and the production efficiency continuously increased. Since 1999, the plant installations have been modernized to the latest technological level in accordance with the enlargement for the new van series which started production last year. Consequently, all processes have been brought into alignment with quality and productivity. Today, the plants in Spain are some of the most modern production plants for vans worldwide. Before his assignment in Spain, Volker Heuer, who is a qualified mechanical engineer, worked in various management positions in the Group's development sector, last as Head of development for vans and light trucks.
