FRIEDRICHSHAFEN, GERMANY – Rolls-Royce Power Systems brand mtu is the new main sponsor for top athlete Richard Ringer. The 26-year-old athlete, who works part-time in the Controlling department at Rolls-Royce Power Systems, will be showcasing the mtu product brand for the next two years. Ringer specializes in long-distance and cross-country running and is a member of the German Athletic Association’s top national team. The mtu brand is part of Rolls-Royce Power Systems within the Land & Sea division of Rolls-Royce.
“In sponsoring Richard Ringer, we are supporting a nationally and internationally successful sportsman from the region as well as a talented individual from within our company’s ranks. Richard Ringer has been working part-time for our company for several years. I’m very pleased that we are also able to support this young and ambitious sportsman outside of work and that he will be showcasing the mtu product brand both nationally and internationally,” states Ingo Metzer, Vice President Human Resources at Rolls-Royce Power Systems.
“To stay successful in sport, I need a strong partner like mtu at my side. I am thrilled to receive this support – not just as a sportsman but also as an employee,” explains Ringer. “Thanks to the flexible part-time working hours, I am able to combine my sports career with my work as a controller. It's an ideal solution for me,” adds Ringer.
Ringer’s passion for athletics began when he was ten years old. He started training at the VfB Friedrichshafen club in 2005 and, one year later, won his first German U18 title. He took part in the first international U20 European Championships in 2007. His first international medal came in 2013, with a third place at the Universiade in Kazan, Russia. In 2014 Ringer was a triple German champion, winning the titles for 5000 meters, 10,000 meters and cross-country running. He achieved fourth place at the European Championships in Zürich the same year. In 2015 he won the German indoor title and finished fifth in the 3000 meters at the European Indoor Championships. Richard Ringer studied business management and has been working in the Controlling department at what is now Rolls-Royce Power Systems AG since 2013. Ringer had already started working for the company while still a student – as a student employee, an intern and a bachelor's degree candidate.
