  • Rising demand: mtu Engines are the Number One Choice for Supply Vessels servicing Drilling Rigs in Asia

Friedrichshafen, 7 July 2008. During the current year, Tognum subsidiary MTU Friedrichshafen has been awarded orders with a total volume of more than €10 million by leading shipbuilding yards in South-East Asia. Orders are predominantly for propulsion systems for Offshore Supply Vessels.

More than 30 engines of the successful Series 2000 and 4000, with a power output range between 750 and 2,000 kW, have already been ordered to meet the increasing demand in supply vessels servicing offshore drilling rigs. Trends point towards increasingly faster, larger and more flexibly deployable vessels that are capable of replacing helicopter transport. mtu propulsion systems are characterized by their extraordinary reliability and excellent performance-to-weight ratio. For ship operators, this means fast and reliable transport of people and goods whilst simultaneously lowering operating expenses.

mtu customers include prominent shipbuilders such as Damen Shipyards Singapore, Penguin Shipyard International, Strategic Marine and NGV Tech from Malaysia.
