Friedrichshafen/Hanover, September 11, 2013. On its stand (Hall 1/Stand F217) at Agritechnica, the exhibition for agricultural machinery and equipment in Hanover, Tognum subsidiary MTU Friedrichshafen GmbH will be showcasing its agricultural engines for EU Stage IV and US EPA Tier 4 final emissions regulations due to come into force from 2014. Covering a power range from 100 kW to 730 kW, the Series 1000 to 1600 units are specially designed to meet the high standards of reliability, economy and low emissions demanded in agricultural and forestry applications. In addition to its drive engines for mobile machines, Tognum will also be presenting its mtu Onsite Energy solutions for distributed power generation (Hall 22/Stand E20).

mtu´s new Series 1000, 1100, 1300 and 1500 engines producing between 100 kW and 460 kW will be introduced from 2014. Using Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle engines as a basis, mtu has optimized the new units for off-highway applications. They achieve compliance with EU Stage IV and EPA Tier 4 final emissions guidelines using exhaust recirculation and SCR technology. In future, the Series 1000 4- and 6-cylinder in-line engines and the 6-cylinder in-line units available in Series 1100, 1300 and 1500 will be used to power harvesters operating in agriculture and forestry. In particular, these include combine harvesters, corn choppers, beet harvesters, timber shredders and tree harvesters. With its Series 1000 to 1500 engines, mtu is able to offer its OEM partners a robust and compact system with standardized mechanical and electronic interfaces that enable it to be integrated in vehicles with minimum adaptation. This economically efficient solution benefits farmers and operators alike with up to 20% longer service life and up to 5% lower fuel consumption in comparison with predecessors. These advantages are complemented by higher low end torque together with fast and simple maintenance. For markets with less demanding emissions regulations, mtu continues to offer its proven series 900, 460 and 500 units in the 75 kW to 480 kW power range.

In the range above 560 kW, Series 1600 engines will extend the program to 730 kW from mid-2014. These units are specifically designed for agricultural vehicles and equipment requiring high power outputs. Series 1600 engines meet US EPA Tier 4 final specifications scheduled for 2015 using high-pressure common rail injection, two-stage turbocharging and cooled exhaust recirculation technology. To minimize fuel consumption, mtu placed particular emphasis on optimizing the combustion process.

mtu´s role as a reliable partner for its customers is not based solely on its products but also rests on the mtu ValueCare service program. Among other services, this includes fast and reliable delivery of high-quality original-brand spare parts. In addition, mtu supports its customers throughout the entire engine integration process from design of the power train to acceptance of the system in its target application. The mtu ValueCare program operates from more than 1,200 service locations around the world.
