FRIEDRICHSHAFEN/HANOVER, GERMANY – The 2015 Agritechnica agricultural machinery and equipment exhibition in Hanover will see mtu presenting its agricultural engines for the EU Stage V emissions regulations due to come into force from 2019. Located in Hall 17, the company’s stand D09 will feature 4R 1000, 6R 1300, 6R 1500 and 10V 1600 units. To complete the picture, mtu will also be showcasing its exhaust gas aftertreatment systems for the projected emissions regulations. The mtu brand is part of Rolls-Royce Power Systems within the Land & Sea division of Rolls-Royce.

Series 1000 to 1500 engines are based on Daimler commercial vehicle units and are currently undergoing advanced development by mtu and Daimler for EU Stage V. Covering the 100 to 480 kW power range, these engines are scheduled for availability in advance of the introduction of the EU Stage V emissions regulations planned for 2019. The mtu units meet the new targets for soot emissions using advanced in-engine technology, an SCR system and an additional diesel particulate filter. Farmers and operators stand to benefit directly from the new developments which are expected to include higher low-end torque, enhanced fuel consumption and an extended power range as compared with units previously developed for EU Stage IV.

The mtu stand will also feature a 10V 1600 engine specially designed for agricultural vehicles and machines with high power requirements such as forage harvesters and log splitters. mtu Series 1600 units are available in a range from 567 to 736 kW and comply with both US EPA Tier 4 specifications and the projected EU Stage V regulations using in-engine technology only. No exhaust gas aftertreatment systems are required.

mtu Series 1000, 1100, 1300 and 1500 engines currently meet EPA Tier 4 regulations as well as EU Stage IV emissions requirements in place since 2014. The 4 and 6-cylinder in-line Series 1000 units and the 6-cylinder in-line 1100, 1300 and 1500 units are used to power agricultural and forestry machines – including, in particular, combine harvesters, maize choppers, large tractors, beet lifters, self-propelled field sprayers, timber shredders and tree harvesters. For markets where only high-sulphur fuels are available and where less stringent emissions regulations apply, mtu also offers a Sulphur Tolerance Solution for Series 1000 to 1600. Series 900, 460 and 500 units – the forerunners of the latest engines – will continue to be available.

mtu’s role as a reliable partner for its customers is not solely dependent on its engines but is also based on the mtu ValueCare Service Programme. The services showcased at Agritechnica will include the fast and reliable supply of high-quality original-brand spares made possible, among other things, by the participation of more than 1,200 service locations worldwide.
