  • Cannes: Presentation of mtu’s new hybrid system based on Series 2000 engines
  • Monaco: Advanced Series 4000 diesel engines meeting IMO Tier III for megayachts
  • Digital Tools extend services and product portfolio

Rolls-Royce will be showcasing mtu’s state-of-the-art propulsion systems and service solutions for motor and sailing yachts at this year’s yacht shows in Cannes from 11 to 16 September and in Monaco from 26 to 29 September. Both events will focus on the mtu’s fully integrated hybrid ship propulsion systems and the company’s new digital service products for the maritime sector.

At the Cannes Yachting Festival mtu will present a model of a hybrid system that is based on a 16-cylinder Series 2000 engine combined with its BlueVision New Generation Hybrid Automation on Stand JETEE 173. Yacht owners will benefit from the combination of superb performance, the significant increase in comfort levels of silent and vibration-free cruising, in addition to fuel efficiency. The focus of attention on the mtu stand will also be on models of the Pininfarina bridge components and mtu’s Premium Yacht Service, an extended global service programme offering an all-round, peace of mind service package covering the entire life-cycle of the engine.

At the Monaco Yacht Show mtu will be showcasing its latest propulsion systems for megayachts on Stand QC8. These will include the latest generation of Series 4000 engines equipped with the mtu SCR system designed to meet IMO Tier III emission standards.

Fully integrated mtu hybrid propulsion systems as of 2020

As of 2020, Rolls-Royce will launch a series of fully integrated mtu hybrid ship propulsion systems onto the market. The propulsion systems, which will be based on Series 2000 and 4000 engines, will be available in a power range extending from around 1,000 kilowatts to 4,000 kilowatts per powertrain.
The propulsion systems will consist of mtu internal combustion engines, electric drive modules, transmission systems, batteries, monitoring and control systems, in addition to other electronic components. “Our customers will get integrated systems together with an appropriate selection of propulsion modes that are easy to operate,” adds Knut Müller.

mtu Marine Service 4.0 – mtu Go! Act and Go! Manage digital tools

For its yacht customers, mtu offers its digital service products mtu Go! Act and mtu Go! Manage. Connecting up the systems via data loggers will enable both mtu experts and customers to monitor the engines remotely, schedule maintenance work and determine the availability of spare parts, analyse operating data and derive what action is to be recommended to improve the use and operation of products. Since the beginning of 2018, experts have been working hand-in-hand in different time zones at mtu Customer Care Centers across three locations - Singapore, Novi ( Michigan) and Friedrichshafen. This means that customers receive round-the-clock support to make sure they get optimum levels of availability from their mtu propulsion systems.

New integrated bridge system from mtu for safe and efficient operation

mtu is also offering yacht owners a new integrated bridge concept designed to provide a single point of access to all information that is crucial to the safe and efficient operation of the vessel. This relates primarily to the mtu propulsion system, the mtu ship automation system, the power management system, in addition to navigation, radar and communication systems.
