Rolls-Royce (LSE: RR., ADR: RYCEY) Power Systems division has completed the production of the new mtu Series 2000 G06 engine in China, with the first batch to be delivered to customers soon. This marks a key milestone in the implementation of Rolls-Royce’s localisation strategy in China. The new product is manufactured at MTU Yuchai Power (MYP), a joint venture between Rolls-Royce and Chinese engine manufacturer Guangxi Yuchai Machinery Co. Ltd (Yuchai Diesel), in its Suzhou facility. The new mtu Series 2000 G06 engine is designed for mission-critical applications such as main backup power for data centres, industrial parks, power stations, rental and infrastructure, offering high power density, excellent fuel efficiency, and outstanding reliability. The launch of this locally produced model in China will enrich product options for Chinese customers and strengthen Rolls-Royce’s service capabilities in key industries such as power generation.

At the launch ceremony, Rolls-Royce signed agreements with more than ten power generation OEMs. These will cover various applications, including mobile power tracks, power rental, building stand-by, and engineering, procurement and construction (“EPC”) projects. These agreements fully demonstrate Chinese customers’ high recognition of Rolls-Royce Power Systems’ products and services, as well as MYP’s production capabilities.

Tobias Ostermaier, President of the Stationary Power Solutions division at Rolls-Royce Power Systems, who attended the launch ceremony, said, “I am delighted to witness another milestone for Rolls-Royce Power Systems in China, which reflects our long-term commitment to the Chinese market. The newly produced mtu Series 2000 engines are the latest generation of high-performance diesel engines manufactured locally in China, adhering to the same production standards as those made in Germany. At the same time, they will be supported by our local after-sales team, significantly improving response efficiency and delivering a lower total cost of ownership for our customers,” said Tobias.

"These innovative engines will not only play a vital role in domestic applications such as data centres, power rental, mobile power truck, mining bidding and industrial infrastructure, but will also serve overseas projects, providing reliable power solutions to neighbouring regions. This achievement is another successful outcome of our collaboration with Yuchai, it is a vivid reflection of our ‘Technology Synchronization, Service Homology’ localisation strategy. The trust of our customers is the best affirmation of our technical strength and service capabilities. We look forward to further stimulating market demand and significantly expanding our market share with these products," Amy Zhou, General Manager of Rolls-Royce Power Systems Greater China, added.

Rolls-Royce Power Systems and Yuchai signed a cooperation agreement in 2014 to establish the joint venture. In April 2018, the first mtu Series 4000 engine rolled off the production line at Yuchai, and to date, the joint venture has produced over 3,000 mtu engines. In 2024, the two parties announced an expansion of the joint venture’s business scope and have now achieved the production of 4000 Series S83 engines and the new 2000 Series engine, continuing to provide power support for China's oil & gas fields and power generation markets.
