Rolls-Royce is donating 250,000 EUR to support ten aid organizations that were deployed after the attack on the Magdeburg Christmas market on 20 December and are still helping the bereaved and surviving victims. Dr. Thelse Godewerth, Member of the Executive Board and Labour Director of Rolls-Royce-Power Systems, presented the donation to Saxony-Anhalt's Prime Minister Dr. Reiner Haselhoff today. The Prime Minister accepted the donation on behalf of the aid organizations at the
Rolls-Royce Solutions Magdeburg subsidiary's plant.

Thelse Godewerth said: "Many of our Magdeburg employees were at the Christmas market at the time of the attack. Many of them know people in their personal environment who are still suffering from the consequences of the attack today. These people are dependent on help, including voluntary help. We stand by the side of our colleagues, we stand by the side of Magdeburg and we stand by the side of those who take on human responsibility. We need solidarity and
humanity, especially in these times."

On December 20, 2024, six people were killed and over 300 were directly injured in an attack with a car at the Magdeburg Christmas market.

Dr. Reiner Haseloff, Prime Minister of the State of Saxony-Anhalt, said: “I would like to express my sincere thanks to Rolls-Royce for their generous donation initiative in favor of aid organizations that take care of the victims of the attack and their relatives in the aftercare. Of course, we are also very grateful to these organizations and to everyone who works for them. The great willingness to help
and the solidarity that followed the attack showed that our community is intact. The wonderful initiative from Rolls-Royce is further proof of this."

These aid organizations receive the support:
- Psychosocial emergency care
- Weißer Ring e.V.
- DLRG local group Magdeburg e.V.
- Budget for stakeholder meetings
- ASB Katastrophenschutz
- Malteser Katastrophenschutz
- Helfer für Helfer in Not
- Telephone counseling Magdeburg
-  Emergency pastoral care in the church district of Magdeburg
- Johanniter Magdeburg.

Thea Ilse, representative of the aid organizations and Commissioner for Emergency Pastoral Care of the Evangelical Church of Central Germany for Saxony-Anhalt, says: "This attack will have a massive influence on the city of Magdeburg for a long time to come. Trauma-related disorders often only occur weeks or months after such events. There is still a need for low-threshold services that refer those affected to professional, therapeutic services," says Thea Ilse. "That's why the support from Rolls-Royce is very helpful and valuable for the volunteers.”

Half of the donation will be provided by the company and half by the workforce of the Friedrichshafen plant of Rolls-Royce Power Systems. Their overtime surpluses are collected in a fund managed by the Works Council.

About Rolls-Royce Solutions Magdeburg

The Rolls-Royce plant in Magdeburg is the Remanufacturing Competence Center for the industrial reconditioning of mtu-brand energy and drive systems. They are used, for example, in locomotives, railcars and emergency power systems in data centers, airports, hospitals and industrial plants with sensitive processes. At the end of their service life, engines and complete systems are dismantled, tested, repaired and reassembled according to predefined procedures. This makes them as good as new and available for reuse. This not only saves time and money, but also contributes to the circular economy.
