Modular design integrating all essential components

The mtu EnergyPack QX is a dedicated solution for commercial and industrial energy storage applications. Its serialized design integrates all essential components into standardized, preconfigured systems – creating a modular energy storage system that is quick to specify and easy to deploy.

The mtu EnergyPack QX is available in three configurations with distinct power and capacity ratings – offering the flexibility to meet a wide range of requirements and use cases.

Every system includes the advanced mtu EnergetIQ BESS Controller, providing intelligent control, optimized energy management and real-time system monitoring. Built on the same proven components as our grid-scale platforms, this solution benefits from economies of scale while delivering exceptional reliability and strong commercial value.

The mtu EnergetIQ platform integrates, controls and optimizes energy assets including third-party systems. With cloud monitoring, data management and cybersecurity, it ensures safe, efficient BESS operation and full grid compliance.

Energy storage – rack or containerized

Our scalable battery storage solutions, powered by partners like CATL, range from megawatt to gigawatt scale. Modular units (3–9 MVA) offer 1–4 hour durations with flexible C-rates making them ideal for grid-scale applications.

MV power station modules

Through Tier 1 partners like SMA, PE and Nidec we deliver medium-voltage station modules from 10 to 33 kV. Designed for seamless integration they ensure reliable long-term operation and optimized performance.

The mtu EnergetIQ BESS Controller ensures safe and efficient operation of the EnergyPack QX, manages primary control functions and handles battery data for warranty compliance and advanced analytics – delivering reliability, performance and actionable insights.

The mtu EnergetIQ BESS Controller ensures safe and efficient operation of the EnergyPack QX, managing all primary control functions and safeguarding system performance. This enables a wide range of applications, including:

Peak shaving

Reduces demand charges, which are often a significant part of the electricity bill for C&I.

Takes advantage of time-of-use (TOU) rates to lower energy costs.

Optionally, the mtu EnergetIQ Manager is available on request to manage BESS and hybrid plants of any scale. It provides centralized control, monitoring and optimization, integrating supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) for data collection, analysis, reporting and power distribution. mtu EnergyPack QX is a commercial and industrial energy storage system designed for grid-connected, behind-the-meter applications. It supports multiple use cases including peak shaving, load shifting, time-of-use optimization and demand charge reduction, helping businesses lower energy costs and improve efficiency. It also enables renewable integration, allowing companies to increase self-consumption of solar or wind energy and reduce carbon emissions.

In what sizes and configurations is the mtu EnergyPack QX available?

Rolls-Royce offers three standardized, modular energy storage configurations optimized for commercial and industrial applications where reliability and fast deployment matter most.

Each mtu EnergyPack QX system arrives fully pre-engineered, validated, and documented, ensuring fast installation, smooth commissioning, and reliable long-term performance. All three turnkey modules – CATL TenerS battery container, SMA or Nidec medium-voltage power station, and the mtu BESS Controller – are delivered to the project site ready for rapid integration into the energy landscape.

To meet diverse project demands, the QX platform is available in three standardized, high-performance configurations:

  • QX 6.0 (SMA): 2.67 MW / 5.37 MWh
  • QX 6.0 (Nidec): 2.65 MW / 5.41 MWh
  • QX 12.0 (Nidec): 5.40 MW / 10.83 MWh

Designed for the regulatory and operational requirements of European markets, the QX solution is available with either SMA or Nidec Medium Voltage Power Stations, providing maximum flexibility for regional project needs.

For advanced system coordination, our proprietary Energy Management System – the mtu EnergetIQ Manager –  is available as an optional add-on, enabling optimized performance and seamless integration within complex or hybrid energy systems.

What components are included in the mtu EnergyPack QX?

The mtu EnergyPack QX is a modular Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) that includes:

  • CATL TenerS Battery Container(s)
  • SMA or Nidec Medium-Voltage Power Station (incl. Power Conversion System)
  • mtu BESS Controller

For enhanced control, the optional mtu EnergetIQ Manager provides intelligent energy management, enabling smooth integration into the energy landscape, real-time optimization – tailored to each application.

Can the mtu EnergyPack QX be integrated into hybrid systems or microgrids?

Yes, the mtu EnergyPack QX integrates seamlessly into hybrid energy systems when combined with mtu diesel or gas gensets. Managed by the optional mtu EnergetIQ Manager, our proprietary Energy Management System,  it coordinates multiple energy sources – including renewables – to deliver efficient, reliable and sustainable operation across microgrid or hybrid energy storage applications.
