Modular Engine Power Plants (MEPP) from 5 MW to 150 MW
MEPPs are complete power stations built from standardised mtu engine-generator modules. The system integrates power units, electrical systems, grid connection and central control into one coordinated solution. This concept delivers fast and flexible capacity where grid expansion is slow and renewables increase volatility.
Ready to power your project?
Secure constant power with our gas generator set range
Gas engines offer flexibility for different requirements and are therefore considered a key strategic technology. Units can operate in continuous duty, backup mode or flexible dispatch and can be installed standalone, in containers, in engine rooms, in hybrid systems or as part of a MEPP. Gas engine gensets offer high electrical efficiency, with total efficiencies above 80% achievable in CHP or CHPC configurations. Low emissions, advanced exhaust after treatment, long maintenance intervals and low oil consumption ensure low lifecycle costs and outstanding reliability.
Power your business with confidence.
Dynamic UPS for zero-interruption power without batteries
The mtu Kinetic PowerPack is a dynamic UPS that uses a high-speed flywheel instead of chemical batteries, combined with an mtu diesel engine, a synchronous machine and an electromagnetic clutch. In normal operation, the system conditions grid power and stabilises voltage and frequency. In case of grid failure, the flywheel supplies power instantly with zero interruption. Parallel engine start allows the diesel engine to take over seamlessly for extended outages without any transfer break.
Ensure zero downtime for your business.
Grid-scale battery storage to ensure reliable energy and power up efficiency
The mtu EnergyPack QX is a next-generation, modular Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) with standardised, pre-configured power and storage modules. It integrates CATL battery containers, medium-voltage PCS, and an mtu BESS controller for reliable, scalable energy storage. Our BESS enable advanced grid services such as peak shaving, loadshifting, frequency regulation and renewable integration while also supporting backuppower and demand charge reduction. Intelligent energy management coordinates charge and discharge in milliseconds based on grid conditions, renewable generation and market signals, optimising performance and operational costs.
Carbon capture gas power plants supporting low-emission energy supply
Flexible, modular carbon capture gas power plants are an economically attractive and technologically mature solution for reducing CO₂ emissions. These systems generate flexible, dispatchable power while capturing CO₂ from exhaust gases to significantly reducenet emissions and support Net Zero targets. During operation, the gas engines produce electricity and route exhaust gas to partner-developed capture systems, such as those from ASCO Carbon Dioxide and Landmark Power Holdings. The captured CO₂ can be reused in food and beverage production,
e-fuels and sustainable aviation fuel, cement and plastics, or transported for permanent geological storage.
Emergency Power Systems: additional source of income in Germany
In Germany, grid operators must ensure that energy generation and consumption are always balanced. To this end, they operate a market. So-called emergency power systems can participate in this balancing energy market and thus contribute to a stable power supply. Operators of emergency power systems benefit from remuneration for their operational readiness.
SMR power stations producing stable, affordable and low carbon energy
The Rolls-Royce Small Modular Reactor (SMR) solution offers a completely different approach to deploying proven nuclear technology. It has already been selected for deployment in the UK (by Great British Nuclear – Energy) and the Czech Republic (by European utility, CEZ). The Rolls-Royce SMR is in the final step of assessment by UK regulators and has recently entered the pre-application phase of the regulatory process in the US.
